The Chief Minister said that his province was also being deprived of its due share in electricity and net hydel profit which had reached to the extent of Rs 120 billion and they are payable by the federal government. He was speaking at Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's parliamentary party meeting chaired by the PTI Chairman Imran Khan on Tuesday. The meeting was attended by the PTI parliamentary members of the Parliament and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab and Sindh assemblies.
The Chief Minister apprised the meeting of the latest situation of the KP government affairs with the federal government particularly those related to CPEC, outstanding dues of Net Hydel Power profit, the power load shedding, use of surplus water of KP, Chashma Right Bank Canal and certain other projects. He told that the federal government was not only practicing delaying tactics in provision of rights of the people of KP in connection with these affairs and projects but also trying to conceal facts about them.
Pervez Khattak said that All Parties Conferences held by certain political parties of KP and Balochistan also expressed strong reservations on CPEC and demanded of the federal government to do away with these concerns but they also had not received any satisfactory response. He revealed that certain other facilities linked with the Eastern Route of CPEC have come to light and they included establishment of huge new cities, a new world of Information Technology and economic zones.
He said that mere construction of a road on the Western Route of the Corridor would serve no purpose and only that highway would be considered as Corridor which will have the essential allied facilities such as power projects, gas lines, railways, economic zones, and information technology infrastructure. He said that in this respect the breach of commitment and ill will on part of the federal government was obvious from the fact that not a single project was initiated in KP under CPEC whereas sites of all the power projects and other facilities had not only been identified on the eastern route but their execution had also been started.
He further revealed the information that 300 students were being sent to China to learn Chinese language and certain technologies who on return will be employed in CPEC projects. He said that all such extraordinary favours and imbalanced cooperation of the federal government with Punjab was depriving KP of its due rights. He informed the meeting that besides electricity the centre was stealing the surplus water of the province by violating the Water Accord of 1992. It was not paying any heed to our request for the grant of permission to generate electricity from surplus gas of the province.
The Chief Minister said that after restoration of peace and order in the province the investment environment has become quite favourable in the province but again the central government was creating hurdles to discourage the investors. "Usurpation of rights of the people of KP with reference to CPEC is such an issue that we cannot sit silent on this matter and we are supposed to fight for this", stated Pervez Khattak.
The Chief Minister on this occasion also highlighted performance of the present PTI-led KP government during the last two and a half years and urged the PTI's parliamentary members of KP Assembly to keep close liaison with common people of their respective constituencies and solve their problems. He was of the view that since the provincial government had done much for the convenience of the masses during the last 30 months in the form of countless legislation, effective policy making and tremendous system reforms, therefore now we all are able to reach the people to ensure provision of rights and justice to them in accordance with the PTI manifesto.
